Demonstrate Knowledge and Earn College Credit
Testing Out – It’s Not Just For The Military Anymore
For many decades, the military has used independent learning to allow military personnel the flexibility to independently learn and then test out of college courses, as well as military specific courses.
Freshmen who have taken Advanced Placement (AP) courses in high school or demonstrated higher than average grades are offered the opportunity to test out of courses that they feel they may already have sufficient knowledge of through other resources.
Independent learners use nationally recognized testing companies that provide standardized examinations to help independent learners demonstrate their knowledge in a given subject.
Today, there are tens of thousands of people who earn a four (4) year college degree using nothing but independent learning to aid in testing out of courses. Their passing grades are transferred to a college of their choice that accepts the passing standardized exam scores and the college issues them credit toward a degree.
There are over 2,900 colleges and universities that now allow this type of earned credit to be transferred into a degree program.
